:: WELCOME ::

i felt compelled to create this blog with the thought of all those who have helped me as i continue my journey of cake decorating. if not for those creative minds who were brave enough to put themselves out there i would not have learned so many wonderful things or been as inspired as i am. i am just starting on my path to greatness! (ha ha!) i hope to document my progress through this blog. give out tips i have learned. make more connections with the decorating world. and perhaps someday give someone a little inspiration myself. so welcome and thank you for stopping by!

March 2005 - That Tickles!

ELMO!

Perfect for PhotOps. I was so excited for this cake, I think he turned out marvelous!

Wilton uses a lot of the star tip on their character cakes. But not only does this take a lot of time and hurts your hand and unless you are working within a cooler environment, the warmth from your hand changes the consistency of the icing and makes the stars more and more bloppy. At least for me it did! I was so glad that I chose to make it look furry rather than submit to the star tip! I loved this cake! It was my first use of a character shaped pan. I was very worried it would stick in the small crevices, but I made sure to smear it really well and then dust it thoroughly with flour. This is the most effective way I have found not to let a cake stick to the pan! Just don't over do it!
