:: WELCOME ::

i felt compelled to create this blog with the thought of all those who have helped me as i continue my journey of cake decorating. if not for those creative minds who were brave enough to put themselves out there i would not have learned so many wonderful things or been as inspired as i am. i am just starting on my path to greatness! (ha ha!) i hope to document my progress through this blog. give out tips i have learned. make more connections with the decorating world. and perhaps someday give someone a little inspiration myself. so welcome and thank you for stopping by!

FINALS! did you study?

As part of the Wilton courses we are required to make a final cake for each of the three courses.

My first course ended in October 2004 so I made a pumpkin patch. I thought it was so cute. I used a cool frosting tool around the edge of the cake to give it the pattern, really fun to work with. I used a plastic bale of hay from the Chevron cars series and used the clown pattern to make a scarecrow. I made a small foam head but lost is somewhere along the way! Oh well, it turned out adorable I think!

For the second course the focus was on royal icing and color flow. We also learned the basket weave. I tried to think outside the box, I did not want to make another basket of flowers. So I made a seed basket. Aren't my veg packets sweet! I loved them so much! You cannot see it very well, but the lettuce is half a rose, it worked so well!

The third and final course was focused on fondant. I saw this cake in one of the Wilton books and I think I took on a little too much. I also tried and learned NOT to use whipped topping underneath fondant.

M.E.S.S.Y.

It turned out okay, but dear goodness was it hard to lug that thing all the way to class. My fondant covering needs some major work, but the whipped topping made it so hard. But for what it was, I think it worked out okay.
